Collaboration is very important in science. google docs helps students to collaborate on the same file at different times. for example, on an assignment where student must collect data, they could all enter their own data into a spreadsheet that would compile all of the class' data for easy comparison.
some disadvantages to this is that students might make mistakes, and figuring out the source of the mistake might take longer than if all students were working in the same room at the same time.
